Your question number : 85939 , we answered similar question before number (9883) , assalamualaikum , the origin of the muslim`s pray is to be by the heart and it`s presence in a spiritual way , and if he start praying he leave everything and focus only on praying , in sahih al bukhari from the hadith of Abdullah ibn masood –may allah be pleased with him- that the prophet peace be upon him said what means that during the pray , distraction may occur , the muslim should provide to himself everything to make him focus during the pray , prophet Mohamed himself done this as while he was praying his sight went on lines of his clothes so he changed it by another one for he avoid the oversight , the muslim may face problems in counting the sagdat and rakaat so he can use things in counting , jurists said that it is acceptable if the one who pray move his ring from one finger to the other for counting , al sheikh al khorashy –may allah have mercy on him- in his explaining of "mokhtasr khalil" ,(moving the ring from one finger to the other for counting the rakaat to avoid oversight and for reforming the pray is acceptable), the jurists of al hanafeya said that using the fingers in counting is also acceptable , al baberty said –may allah have peace on him- in "al aenaya sharh al hedaya" :(it is said about Youssef`s father and Mohamed that no problem in counting by referring to the heads of fingers or saving by heart they are accepted by agreement so if the prayer rug which you are asking about is like the other prayer rugs and the only difference is the sensor , the screen and it is programmed to count the sagdat and rakaat , so what we see is that this prayer rug isn`t more than instrument and who want it can use it as it help him in knowing the number of sagdat and rakaat , it is mentioned in the question that it is designed also to help who suffer from (disease of doubt ,dementia Alzheimer and to teach children and new muslims couting the rakaat and sagdat) , so it can take the same rule like what we mentioned before , as jurist permitted moving the ring from one finger to the other and referring to the finger`s heads for counting the sagdat and rakaat , this prayer rug doesn`t need extra movements as all what is done is looking at the screen in case of oversight for you know the number of what you prayed , it is acceptable, jurists also said that if a person oversight during praying and then he completed counting just like the person who began the pray with him this counting is acceptable from him , al tahawy –may allah have peace on him- said that it is acceptable , so manufacturing this prayer rug is permitted , allah knows better . to sum up we see that this prayer rug isn`t more than an instrument which who want it can use it and it make calculating the rakaat easy for him it is also designed for it help who need it from patients of dementia , Alzheimer and to educate new children and muslims about knowing the number of rakaat and sagdat and no problem in selling and trading it . allah knows better. I ask allah for forgiveness

Sheikh Mohamed Saleh Al Monged fatwa's

Can a counter be used and count automatically during the pray , for assuring the one who pray about the number of rakaat which he performed in case of oversight or forgetting at any pray ? praise be to allah , firstly : praying has an old origin in prophet mohamed's followers in what they do and their words , and the ways of counting varies by varying their environment and time , some of them used their ring others used the kernel of dates and others used small stones ibn ragab al hanbaly said –may God have mercy on him- 'al fadl ibn narrate' about ., that others used their hands and heads of fingers to help them in counting , all this staff show the importance of your rug in counting the sagdat and rakaat , shazan in his book 'counting the ayat and rakaat during the pray' from the hadith of abd al rahman ibn al kasim about his father about aisha that when she pray the 5 main prayers she count the rakaat by her ring by moving it from one finger to the other till she finish the pray , the khorashy the maleky - may alah have peace on him- : 'it is not misleading when you move your ring from one finger to the other ' finish book 'al khwatim' for ragab's son (page 109) and it is supported rightly and in 'hashyt ibn abdin' (1-650) : said in 'al bahr' . (finished 'sharh mokhtasr Khalil' (1-294) so referring to the heads of fingers while praying is not detestable .agreement. and counting by tongue spoils agreement 'finished and said Mohamed al babirty al hanafy –may allah have peace on him- -:'(…it is said about the father of Youssef and Mohamed) finished from (that counting by hand is acceptable ) counting by hand and by heart is acceptable while you should be aware of counting by tongue because it spoils the pray , sheikh al athaymen said –may allah have peace on him- 'for him counting the rakaat , this maybe more important that the past , because many people forget and count it by finger , and here is a problem , ('al aenaya sharh al hedaya') (1-418) because while he is performing the rakaa his hand should be at a certain status and the same happen while performing sojod , so he should count by a small stone or kernel for he take 4 small stones and throw 1 each rakaa , 'sharh al montea fe al zat al mostknaa'(3-249,250),and no problem in this because it is useful specially for who is forgetful , it may distract the one who pray looking at it and thinking about it`s numbers , he will not usually see it enough till he think about it by his brain and heart , the prayer rug and this staff make duties which the prayer rug doesn`t expose to 2- for he can make sure that it is right ! and this may make the prayer rug lose it`s main duty , which is concentrating in the pray and not to concentrate in counting ! the oversight may happen while saying al fatha (the opener) the oversight may also make you in a doubt so you may not sit for the first tashahhud , he may even forget performing ruqoaa , and it will be calculated as a rakaa because he performed 2 sagdat , third: this rug is only for counting the sagdat and rakaat nothing else , the prayer in Islam depend on the heart , the person who oversight during the pray should follow a clear rule that if he oversight and don’t know how many did he prayed he should depend on the less , what we see is that it is acceptable and useful for who suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder as an example , inattention , it is also acceptable if he ask allah to protect him from the devil , it is acceptable if it connects his heart with the pray , for he feel safe that the prayer rug will count for him GOD KNOWS BETTER

Praise be to allah , praise and peace be upon the messenger of allah …, the origin of the muslim`s pray is to be by the heart and it`s presence in a spiritual way , and if he start praying he leave everything and focus only on praying , in sahih al bukhari from the hadith of Abdullah ibn masood –may allah be pleased with him- that the prophet peace be upon him said what means that during the pray , distraction may occur , the muslim should provide to himself everything to make him focus during the pray , prophet Mohamed himself done this as while he was praying his sight went on lines of his clothes so he changed it by another one for he avoid the oversight , the muslim may face problems in counting the sagdat and rakaat so he can use things in counting , jurists said that it is acceptable if the one who pray move his ring from one finger to the other for counting , al sheikh al khorashy –may God have mercy on him- in his explaining of "mokhtasr khalil" ,(moving the ring from one fingure to the other for counting the rakaat to avoid oversight and for reforming the pray is acceptable) , it is that aisha was doing the same., so if the prayer rug which you are asking about is like the other prayer rugs and the only different is the counter , the screen , the sensor and it is programmed for it count the sagdat and rakaat . we believe that this prayer rug is acceptable and can be used as it help in counting the number of rakaat. It also doesn`t need any effort or extra movements and is just looking in the screen for knowing the number of what he prayed , it acceptable for the one who pray to look at the screen if needed , no problem in using it for who need it and who don`t need it shouldn`t use it , for avoiding oversight , God knows better
